Preventing Fraudulent Claims of Social Security Benefits and Resolving Welfare Blind Spots
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province, will intensively conduct the "2022 Second Half Social Security Benefit Verification Survey" for social security benefit recipients and their obligated supporters from November to the end of December for two months.
?
The survey targets 11 types of social security benefit recipients, including Basic Livelihood Security (living, medical, housing, education), Basic Pension, Disability Pension, Near-Poverty Class, and Single-Parent Families.
Although regular verification surveys have been conducted twice a year, in the first and second halves, to confirm eligibility and appropriateness of benefits, this year, considering the increase in survey tasks for new projects such as youth monthly rent, the process has been simplified by switching from the regular verification survey method, where information is updated all at once, to a monthly verification survey method that updates case by case after system change notifications.
This verification survey will be conducted based on a total of 82 types of income, property, and personal information provided by 25 institutions, and households expected to have eligibility suspension or benefit changes will be given sufficient opportunities to verify facts and submit explanatory materials.
?
In particular, if clear fraudulent receipt is confirmed during the investigation process due to intentional or false reporting, the recipient will not only have their eligibility suspended but will also be required to fully refund the paid benefit costs.
Shin Dong-beom, Director of the Welfare Policy Division, said, “Through the social security benefit verification survey, we will prioritize public services such as emergency welfare for those whose benefits decrease or whose eligibility changes and actively connect them with Arim 1004, private institution services, and others. We will strive to block inappropriate welfare fund receipt and eliminate welfare blind spots.”
