Runner-up is Soprano Yang Ho-young
Tenor Son Ji-hoon and soprano Yang Ho-young won first and second place respectively at the Montserrat Caball? International Vocal Competition. Korea National University of Arts announced on the 9th that the two vocalists took first and second place at the 17th Montserrat Caball? International Vocal Competition, which concluded on the 7th (local time) in Madrid, Spain. The Montserrat Caball? Competition is a world-renowned contest named after Spain's representative soprano Montserrat Caball?. It provides young talents with a stepping stone to the global stage.
On the final stage held that day, Son Ji-hoon performed "Cessa di pi? resistere" from Rossini's opera "The Italian Girl in Algiers." He received the highest scores from the judging panel, which included conductor Fernando San Libiere, artistic director Carlos Caball?, soprano Isabel Rey, and music critic Roger Arri?. He studied under Professor Yang Hee-jun at the Korea National University of Arts College of Music, won the grand prize at the 2015 Paparotti Vocal Competition, and recently won the Italy Biotti Competition.
Yang Ho-young performed "Ah! Je veux vivre dans ce r?ve" from Gounod's opera "Romeo and Juliet" during the competition. A graduate of the Korea National University of Arts College of Music, he is currently active as a soloist in Germany. Starting next year, he will work as a resident singer at the Antwerp Theatre in Belgium.
