Prosecutors Conduct Search and Seizure at Democratic Party Central Office on the 9th
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] On the 9th, the Democratic Party of Korea criticized the prosecution's search and seizure of the Democratic Party office in Yeouido, Seoul, calling it "political repression to shift the focus from the Itaewon disaster."
On the same day in the afternoon, Ahn Ho-young, the chief spokesperson of the Democratic Party, commented on the prosecution's search and seizure of the office within the Democratic Party headquarters on charges of bribery against Jeong Jin-sang, the chief political coordinator and a close aide to party leader Lee Jae-myung. He said, "Although the warrant specifies that the search targets the computer and desk used by Jeong, there is no office, computer, or desk of Jeong in the annex of the party headquarters."
Holding a briefing in front of the Democratic Party headquarters, Spokesperson Ahn claimed, "This search and seizure of the Democratic Party office by the prosecution is clearly an unnecessary excessive investigation."
He further stated that this search and seizure is "political repression aimed at tarnishing the Democratic Party and shifting the focus from the Itaewon disaster," and pointed out that "the prosecution is clearly engaging in politics."
Spokesperson Ahn explained the reason for accepting the search and seizure by saying, "Nevertheless, we want to clearly confirm in front of the public that the prosecution is conducting an excessive and illegal investigation, and to verify that there are no computers or desks in the party office."
