[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] The New York Times (NYT) predicted that the Republican Party is likely to secure the majority in the House of Representatives in the U.S. November 8 midterm elections.

As of 12:10 AM local time on the 9th, NYT reported that out of the total 435 seats in the House, the Republican Party is expected to hold 225 seats, while the Democratic Party is expected to hold 210 seats. Previously, the House seats were 220 for the Democrats, 212 for the Republicans, and 3 vacant seats.

If the Republican Party regains the majority in the House, it will be the first time in four years since 2018 that they hold the majority.

Regarding the Senate, NYT predicted that both the Democratic and Republican parties have secured 46 seats each based on the vote counts so far.

NYT reported that the election race is tight without signs of a ‘Red Wave’?a Republican surge?controlling both the Senate and the House.
