Leading the Way in Practicing Eco-Friendly Ecological Farming with Creativity
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, has been selected as the best institution for ‘eco-friendly ecological agriculture.’
Sancheong-gun announced on the 9th that it was selected as the best institution in the ‘12th Gyeongnam Province Eco-friendly Ecological Agriculture Excellent City/County Evaluation.’
The eco-friendly ecological agriculture excellent city/county evaluation, hosted and selected by Gyeongnam Province, was established to discover and award outstanding cities/counties that have creatively led the practice of eco-friendly ecological agriculture and to expand eco-friendly agriculture.
This evaluation selected award-winning cities/counties by summing the evaluation scores of 12 items, including eco-friendly certification area, mandatory self-help funds, complex formation, fostering of provincial strategic items, and performance in promoting the public interest direct payment system, ranking by highest scores.
As a result of the evaluation, Sancheong-gun was selected as the best institution and will receive a prize fund of 50 million won.
The award ceremony will be held at the ‘10th Gyeongnam Province Eco-friendly Farmers’ Conference’ at Hapcheon County Sports Park on the 10th.
The county has recognized the need to strengthen the stability of the food market and to foster income stability and high value-added industries for farmers due to environmental pollution, genetically modified organisms for high yields, diseases caused by various chemical fertilizers and pesticides, and the expansion of FTAs, and has encouraged and expanded eco-friendly ecological farming methods since the 1990s.
In particular, it has fostered self-reliant eco-friendly organizations that establish direct purchase and direct transactions with distributors for pesticide-free rice, and built a complete livestock-natural circulation farming infrastructure linked with livestock from eco-friendly farming methods limited to simple agriculture.
Also, since 2007, it has been promoting projects focused on the goal of ‘realizing complete eco-friendly ecological farming’ from production to natural return, including the creation of a wide-area eco-friendly agricultural complex, the organic farming valley project in 2008, and continuous ecological agricultural complex development projects.
A county official said, “The global consumers’ demand for safe food is not only urgent but also recognized as a value equivalent to survival for modern people who face more frequent crises with sudden diseases. In this crisis, we will strive together with the residents until Sancheong-gun becomes the mecca of the safest food production through the expansion, intensification, and advancement of eco-friendly ecological agriculture where residents and consumers can coexist and prosper.”
Sancheong-gun’s eco-friendly production farms and organizations are engaged not only in the production of eco-friendly agricultural products but also in all industries including product development, distribution, promotion, and experience.
