[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] Chong Kun Dang announced on the 8th that it has launched 'Chiquick,' an over-the-counter drug effective for hemorrhoid treatment with enhanced absorption rate in the body.

The main ingredient of Chiquick is a micronized flavonoid fraction, a substance in which diosmin, which aids venous circulation and strengthens blood vessels to treat hemorrhoids, is micronized to less than 2㎍ in diameter and combined with hesperidin. It can be applied to treat various venous circulation-related diseases such as hemorrhoids, lower limb edema, pain, and early-stage pressure ulcers, and unlike single-component diosmin treatments, it is also effective for acute hemorrhoids.

By reducing the particle size of the main ingredient to increase the drug's absorption rate in the body, it lowers variability among patients and reduces the influence of external factors such as diet and medication regimens. According to clinical data, the group administered the micronized flavonoid fraction showed a statistically significant reduction in the amount excreted in urine compared to the diosmin group after drug intake, with an absorption rate increased by approximately 80%.

The micronized flavonoid fraction is currently recommended by chronic venous disease treatment guidelines for improving symptoms such as pain, heaviness in the lower limbs, swelling, functional discomfort, and quality of life.

A Chong Kun Dang official stated, “The number of hemorrhoid patients in Korea has exceeded about 600,000 annually, and during winter, the number of acute hemorrhoid patients increases by 1.5 times due to cold weather. We expect that Chiquick, which enhances drug absorption and is effective even for acute hemorrhoids, will help improve patients' quality of life.”
