[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Joselgina] The White House stated that regarding the possibility of a US-China summit at the upcoming G20 summit in Bali, Indonesia next week, "both sides are seeking to finalize a concrete schedule."
According to the White House, Karine Jean-Pierre, White House Press Secretary, confirmed this during a briefing on the 7th (local time) while confirming President Joe Biden's scheduled visits to Egypt and Asia later this week.
President Biden will attend the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) in Egypt on the 11th, then participate in the US-ASEAN Summit and East Asia Summit in Cambodia on the 12th and 13th. Following that, he is scheduled to attend the G20 summit from the 13th to the 16th. Attention is focused on the possibility that this summit could mark the first face-to-face meeting between President Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Regarding this, Press Secretary Jean-Pierre said, "There is nothing to announce at this point," confirming that discussions are ongoing to arrange the schedule. She also drew a line on the possibility of a meeting between President Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin, stating, "As President Biden has mentioned several times, there is absolutely no intention." She reaffirmed the US position that if Russia attends the G20 summit, Ukraine must also be present.
On the day before the November 8 midterm elections, which will reshape the power of the US Congress, Press Secretary Jean-Pierre also mentioned that support for Ukraine will continue even if the Republican Party wins in this election.
Meanwhile, on the same day, President Biden spoke with former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to congratulate him on his election victory. Prime Minister Netanyahu also confirmed the call with President Biden via Twitter.
