[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Lee Jun-hyung] Professor Lee Jae-min of Seoul National University School of Law has been appointed as the chairman of the 15th Trade Commission.


The government announced on the 7th that Professor Lee was appointed as the chairman of the 15th Trade Commission. The term of the new chairman begins on this day and lasts until November 2025.


Chairman Lee graduated from Seoul National University College of Law in 1992 and earned his master's and doctoral degrees in law from the same university. After studying abroad at Boston University and Georgetown University in the United States, he was appointed as a professor at Seoul National University School of Law in 2013. Chairman Lee, who has been actively involved in international organizations such as the United Nations (UN) Commission on International Trade Law Working Group and the World Trade Organization (WTO) Subsidies Agreement Expert Committee, is regarded as the leading authority in the field of international trade law in Korea.


The Trade Commission is a quasi-judicial collegiate administrative body that investigates unfair trade practices such as intellectual property rights infringement and issues corrective measures. It also investigates and adjudicates dumping, subsidy payments, and industrial damage. According to the Unfair Trade Investigation Act, the chairman of the Trade Commission has the authority to convene Trade Commission meetings.
