Securing 102.8 Billion Won for Next Year, Focus on Reflecting Projects Excluded from Government Proposal
Gyeongsangnam-do has launched efforts to secure national funding for disaster prevention projects for the next year.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] “To protect the safety of residents from natural disasters, it is necessary to expand prevention projects, so please make every effort to secure additional national funds.”
Park Wan-su, Governor of Gyeongnam Province, ordered the securing of national funds to promote the expansion of disaster prevention projects for next year.
According to Governor Park’s directive, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 7th that it plans to visit the National Assembly according to the schedules of the standing committees and the Budget and Accounts Committee.
The province explained that it secured 102.8 billion KRW in national funds for next year’s disaster prevention projects, an increase of 16.1 billion KRW compared to this year, but there are related projects not reflected in next year’s government proposal.
To have the unreflected projects additionally included, the province visited the National Assembly on the 3rd to explain and request national fund support to the Budget and Accounts Committee and local constituency lawmakers, entering an all-out campaign to secure national funds.
According to the province, disaster prevention projects are implemented to protect residents’ lives and property from natural disasters by maintaining facilities at risk of collapse due to aging, such as flood-prone areas, steep slopes, and reservoirs.
A provincial official emphasized, “Recently, repeated casualties have occurred due to natural disasters such as flooding near Gangnam Station in Seoul, and in Pohang and Gyeongju areas. To prevent this, it is important to actively carry out disaster prevention projects that can minimize damage, as well as preemptive responses such as resident evacuation and road control.”
Yoon Seong-hye, Head of the Provincial Safety Headquarters, said, “We will do our best to protect residents’ lives and property by preventing disaster risk factors around daily life in advance and will continuously expand and promote these projects.”
