[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] T map Mobility announced on the 7th that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with autonomous driving solution company Autonomous a2Z (a2Z) to promote 'autonomous driving technology cooperation and commercialization.'

Autonomous a2Z is a company with the largest autonomous driving achievements in Korea. Since its establishment in July 2018, its cumulative demonstration distance has reached 220,000 km.

Taking this MOU as an opportunity, T map Mobility plans to combine the comprehensive mobility platform T map service with Autonomous a2Z's autonomous driving technology capabilities.

In particular, they will cooperate in the airport bus and freight truck sectors, which are promoting digital transformation strategies. Since most airport bus routes are on highways, it is easier to introduce autonomous driving technology compared to general city roads.

T map explained that Autonomous a2Z's autonomous driving solution is equipped with vision sensor recognition functions optimized for buses. It also controls considering vehicle size and weight when passengers board, and maintains stable driving by reflecting the characteristics of bus route driving courses.

Both companies plan to continue cooperation with the government, local governments, and others to commercialize autonomous driving services. Furthermore, they will expand the scope of autonomous driving technology cooperation to collect precise data through autonomous vehicles and to special-purpose vehicles such as cleaning vehicles.

Han Ji-hyung, CEO of Autonomous a2Z, stated, “Based on the best real-road autonomous driving achievements and data in Korea that we possess, we will lead the commercialization technology of fully autonomous driving for public transportation and special-purpose vehicles.”

Park Seo-ha, Future Mobility Manager at T map Mobility, said, “In line with the government's mobility innovation roadmap, we will gradually apply autonomous driving technology to airport bus routes and others,” adding, “We will continue to advance the technology aiming for fully unmanned driving operation in the future.”
