[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Su-yeon] Samsung Electronics officially apologized on the 6th for the issue where some models of the Galaxy Watch4 would not power on after a software update and announced that it will provide free repairs.
Samsung Electronics stated in a notice on Samsung Members on the same day, "It has been confirmed that some products do not power on after a software (VI3) update on recent Galaxy Watch4 models," and made this announcement.
Recently, Galaxy Watch4 users have repeatedly raised concerns about the problem where the device does not turn back on after being powered off. This is known as the so-called 'brick' phenomenon.
Samsung Electronics said, "Users who have experienced this issue are advised to visit the nearest Samsung Electronics Service Center, where we will provide necessary measures including free repairs," and added, "We have stopped the problematic software update and will soon release an improved software version."
Furthermore, they stated, "We have decided on a free repair policy for this issue," and "Customers who previously experienced inconvenience due to paid repairs will be contacted separately to proceed with measures such as refunding repair costs," adding, "Customers who want prompt action can call the call center, and we will check the service history to take appropriate measures."
Samsung Electronics also mentioned that customers whose Galaxy Watch4 does not power back on after shutting down should visit the nearest Samsung Electronics Service Center for product inspection and resolution. Additionally, for customers who have recently updated but have not yet experienced the power-off issue, they requested to keep the device sufficiently charged to prevent power shutdown during use.
