[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) mobilized all staff to extinguish a wildfire that occurred near Jokduribong Peak in Bukhansan at around 2:32 PM on the 5th.
To suppress the autumn wildfire, which could lead to a major fire, at an early stage, the district issued an emergency assembly order to all employees immediately after the fire broke out.
From 3 PM that day, about 500 employees, including Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Seoul Eunpyeong-gu, gathered at the ecological park near Bukhansan.
To facilitate smooth firefighting operations, the district provided equipment and supplies for wildfire suppression, including 200 backpack pumps, 100 shovels, 100 rakes, 400 lanterns, and bottled water, while also securing mountain trail access, controlling nearby traffic, evacuating and guiding hikers, and providing other support.
The main fire was extinguished around 4:06 PM. Afterwards, 450 people, including 420 Eunpyeong-gu employees and 30 members of the 56th Division, worked with firefighting authorities to remove remaining embers near Jokduribong Peak in Bukhansan, completing the wildfire suppression operation at 7:25 PM.
Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, said, “It is fortunate that we were able to suppress the wildfire, which could have led to a major accident, at an early stage,” and added, “I deeply thank the firefighting authorities who worked hard to extinguish the fire and all the employees who came immediately for the safety of residents despite it being the weekend.”
