[Asia Economy Reporter Hee-jun Jang] The Ministry of Unification strongly condemned North Korea's missile provocations and emphasized that the responsibility for tensions on the Korean Peninsula lies with North Korea.

Lee Hyo-jung, deputy spokesperson of the Ministry of Unification, stated at the regular briefing on the 4th, "The government strongly condemns North Korea for continuing threats and provocations under the pretext of our annual and defensive exercises, thereby escalating tensions on the Korean Peninsula," adding, "These provocations carried out during our national mourning period are against humanity and humanitarian principles."

In particular, "The government once again clearly states that the current tense situation is due to North Korea's reckless nuclear and missile development."

She continued, "The government will establish a firm deterrence posture to protect the lives and safety of our people," and urged, "We call on North Korea to immediately halt provocations and respond to the 'Bold Initiative' we have proposed."

North Korea launched six ballistic missiles in a single day yesterday, including one intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). Among these, three short-range ballistic missiles (SRBMs) were launched shortly after Park Jong-chon, vice chairman of the Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea and ranked first in North Korea's military hierarchy, criticized the extension of the South Korea-U.S. joint air exercise 'Vigilant Storm' in the evening as "a very dangerous and wrong choice."
