[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The 2022 Busan Urban Regeneration Expo will be held on the 9th and 10th, following the national mourning period for the Itaewon accident.
Busan City announced that it postponed the expo, originally scheduled for two days on the 4th and 5th at Dasom Madang in Busan Citizens Park, and decided to proceed with a scaled-down event by canceling the opening ceremony and other program events.
The expo will be operated as a scaled-down exhibition-focused event, including promotional booths from 16 districts and counties, village communities, and related organizations, as well as exhibition programs.
Now in its sixth year, the ‘Busan Urban Regeneration Expo’ is hosted by Busan City and organized by the Busan Urban Regeneration Support Center. It is designed as a platform for Busan City, the 16 districts and counties, urban regeneration village communities, and related organizations to share achievements and communicate about Busan’s urban regeneration projects.
Main events include ▲promotional booths from 16 districts and counties, village communities, and related organizations, maker exhibition booths ▲urban regeneration seminars and youth forums ▲urban regeneration lounge talks and open citizen lectures ▲and internal and external exhibition programs, all of which will be conducted in a reduced format compared to previous programs.
On the first day, the following will be held: ▲‘Urban Regeneration Seminar’ exploring the direction of Busan-type urban regeneration using local content, ▲‘Busan Urban Regeneration Lounge Talk’ addressing the role and vision of urban regeneration for cultural and economic recovery, and ▲‘Busan Urban Regeneration Open Citizen Lecture’ to build public consensus on the necessity of urban regeneration.
On the second day, the ▲‘Busan Urban Regeneration Youth Forum,’ focusing on the role of urban regeneration for tomorrow’s youth, will take place.
Additionally, exhibitions running throughout both days include ▲‘Urban Regeneration Past&Post,’ showcasing the past and present of the Busan area, and ▲‘Stirring Busan’ seen through the eyes of photographers, aiming to present various aspects of urban regeneration through these displays.
Busan Mayor Park Hyung-joon expressed, “We deeply mourn the Itaewon accident and wish a speedy recovery to the injured. We ask for citizens’ understanding and cooperation regarding the postponement and scaling down of the expo. Through this expo, we hope to review past achievements in urban regeneration and have time to consider future directions together.”
