Fire Occurs at Hapcheon Nonghyup Joint Rice Processing Plant... Cause Under Investigation

29 Firefighting Equipment and 72 Personnel Including Firefighters Dispatched for Early Suppression

Fire incident at the Nonghyup Federation Rice Processing Complex in Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] At around 2:36 a.m. on the 2nd, an unknown cause fire broke out at the Hapcheoncheon Nonghyup United Rice Processing Center on Maryeong-ro, Hapcheon-eup, Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam.

The fire occurred in a silo, a storage facility for rice, and 29 firefighting vehicles and 72 personnel, including firefighters, were dispatched to quickly extinguish the fire.

Due to the fire, one silo and 500 tons of Yeonghojinmi rice purchased last October were destroyed. Hapcheon-gun estimates the damage at approximately 1 billion KRW.

County Governor Kim Yoon-cheol and Chairman Jo Sam-sul expressed their gratitude to the firefighters who worked hard to extinguish the fire in its early stages and urged that the cause of the fire be identified to prevent such incidents from happening again.

The Hapcheon Nonghyup United Rice Processing Center is insured and is currently considering disposal measures for the discarded grains.
