Daegu City held an information session in Seoul last September about the Youth Return Channel Establishment Project, which offers extensive support to young people who come to Daegu for employment or entrepreneurship.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Koo Dae-sun] Daegu City and the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation are providing 20 officetels free of charge to young people who come to Daegu for employment or start a business.
Daegu City and the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation will sign a business agreement at 2 p.m. on the 3rd to operate the ‘Local Youth Shared Housing’ for young people who have come to Daegu.
According to this agreement, the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation will provide 20 officetels, each about 10 pyeong, located in Buk-gu, Daegu, to young people who have come from other regions to Daegu for employment or entrepreneurship. A Daegu city official said, “They are expected to move in around the 20th of next month. They only need to pay a management fee of about 100,000 KRW per month and can live there free of charge for 1 to 3 years.”
Daegu City has also prepared an additional 10 officetels to provide to young people, with 7 units in 2023 and 3 units in 2024.
To address the issue of youth outflow from the region, Daegu City is implementing the ‘Youth Return Channel Establishment Project’ and the ‘Daegu Inflow Youth Experienced Job Matching Project’ aimed at encouraging young people who left Daegu to return.
The ‘Youth Return Channel Establishment Project’ provides youth-related policies and information about Daegu both online and offline, discovers young people wishing to move in, and supports them according to their inflow routes. The ‘Daegu Inflow Youth Experienced Job Matching Project’ connects experienced young workers living in other regions with jobs at local small and medium-sized enterprises.
This year, a total of 82 young people from other regions participated in the employment, startup, and freelancer sections of the ‘Youth Return Channel Establishment Project,’ and 60 experienced young workers from other regions are participating in the ‘Daegu Inflow Youth Experienced Job Matching Project.’
An Jung-gon, Director of the Youth and Women Education Bureau of Daegu City, said, “I hope this housing support will help young people from other regions come to Daegu, find jobs or start businesses, and settle down. We thank the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation for providing the housing space and will continue to work together to support housing for local youth.”
