[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hee-jun] North Korea has once again carried out missile provocations, following the first-ever launch of a ballistic missile crossing the Northern Limit Line (NLL) since the division of the Korean Peninsula, approaching our territorial waters.

According to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, at around 7:40 a.m. on the 3rd, one long-range ballistic missile presumed to have been launched from the Pyongyang Sunan area toward the East Sea was detected, and at around 8:39 a.m., two short-range ballistic missiles (SRBMs) presumed to have been launched from the Kaechon area in South Pyongan Province toward the East Sea were detected.

The long-range ballistic missile underwent stage separation, with the propulsion unit and warhead separating. Accordingly, the military is analyzing the possibility that the missile could be an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). Although there were reports that it passed over the Japanese archipelago shortly after launch, it is understood that it did not fly over Japanese airspace.

North Korea has launched ballistic missiles 30 times and cruise missiles 3 times this year, including four times the previous day and up to today, as revealed by the media. Since the inauguration of the Yoon Suk-yeol administration, this marks the 19th missile launch.
