Eco-friendly Product Startup 'R&B'
Collection at Stores → Repulping Process
Reborn as Various Eco-friendly Products
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Eco-friendly product startup 'R&B' announced on the 3rd that it has partnered with Hansol Paper to develop a paper straw resource circulation system. It is expected that this will increase the recycling rate of paper straws.
Founded in 2018, R&B started with eco-friendly umbrella rain removers and is now producing eco-friendly paper straws domestically. It has contracts with major domestic cafe franchises such as Starbucks and Paul Bassett to supply paper straws. Hansol Paper supplies R&B with eco-friendly paper raw materials that are not coated with PE (polyethylene).
Starting from the 24th, the use of single-use items such as plastic straws will be banned in cafes and restaurants, prompting the industry to seek ways to increase resource recycling.
Accordingly, R&B has developed a dedicated collection device to smoothly collect paper straws at franchise stores, and together with Hansol Paper, has established a paper straw resource circulation system that can increase the recycling rate of paper straws.
An R&B official explained, "First, we supply the paper straw collection device developed by our company to each store to initially separate the used paper straws by consumers, and then collect them collectively through a logistics system along with other recyclables. The collected paper straws undergo a repulping process at Hansol Paper and are reborn as various eco-friendly products such as packaging boxes."
He added, "Unlike other paper products, the eco-friendly paper straws produced by R&B can be recycled over 90%, making the meaning of resource circulation very significant."
A Hansol Paper official said, "To leap forward as a global eco-friendly material company, we are developing environmentally friendly materials and products to secure future growth engines while also focusing on ESG (environment, society, governance) management. Starting from March next year, we plan to continuously collaborate with R&B to make the resource circulation system more widespread."
