[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] Defense Korea, a subsidiary of SonyD, announced on the 2nd that it is collaborating to exclusively distribute and localize the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) robots from Poland's state-owned company Wukaszewicz Industrial Automation Research Institute in South Korea.
Since 2021, Defense Korea has signed a technology cooperation agreement with Wukaszewicz Industrial Automation Research Institute for EOD robots, and is promoting continuous upgrades of the EOD robots as well as integration with domestically produced anti-terrorism equipment such as explosive detectors, recoilless rifles, and X-rays.
After being selected as the exclusive distributor of Wukaszewicz's robots in May last year, Defense Korea was the only company to pass the Police Agency's robot project evaluation conducted in December last year and succeeded in delivery. In August this year, training was conducted for the Police Special Forces under the Korean National Police Agency, and the robots were deployed in actual operations in September. In October, they also participated in a comprehensive anti-terrorism drill conducted by the Gyeonggi Provincial Government, demonstrating the excellence of the Polish EOD robots.
Recently, Defense Korea signed a sole-source maintenance contract for the Polish EOD robots deployed to the Navy and Marine Corps under the Ministry of National Defense.
A representative of Defense Korea stated, “Our company continues to cooperate with the Polish government for the domestic distribution and localization of Polish EOD robots.”
