Forbes Ranks 4.25 Trillion KRW Asset Holder 177th in Global Wealth Rankings
'The godfather of hedge funds,' John Paulson, is engaged in a divorce lawsuit worth 1 trillion won with his wife to remarry a woman 32 years his junior.
[Asia Economy Reporter Bora Lee] John Paulson, a '60s billionaire' ranked 177th on Forbes' list of the world's richest people, is reportedly filing a divorce lawsuit worth about 1 trillion won against his wife to remarry a woman 32 years his junior.
According to recent reports from foreign media such as the UK's Daily Star, hedge fund manager John Paulson (66), who has a net worth of $3 billion (approximately 4.25 trillion won), is set to officially marry Alina de Almeida (34).
His fianc?e Almeida is known as an influencer who sells healthy diets and introduces exercise methods through social networking services (SNS). She has about 138,000 followers.
Earlier, John announced his divorce from his wife Jenny Paulson last November due to personality differences, revealing his relationship with Almeida. It is reported that John expressed his intention to marry because he wants to have a baby with Alina.
Accordingly, John is undergoing a costly divorce process with his wife Jenny Paulson, with whom he has been together for 21 years. Local media predict that their divorce lawsuit will be one of the largest ever, as most of John's wealth was accumulated after marriage.
Jenny started as John's secretary, then their relationship developed into romance, and they married in 2000, having two daughters.
When the divorce lawsuit began, Jenny claimed that John had amassed a huge amount of slush funds to avoid property division and demanded $1 billion (approximately 1.42 trillion won) in alimony from John.
Jenny's lawyer stated, "Many husbands earn large sums of money after marriage but do not want to share it with their wives," adding, "John is pressuring Jenny to settle, which is clearly wrong."
In response, John's lawyer rebutted, "John tried to give Jenny much more than what the law requires last May, but Jenny refused," and "Jenny's greed became an obstacle to reaching a settlement."
Meanwhile, John is known as the largest shareholder of Starwood Hotels and collects Alexander Calder artworks, which sell for an average of $175,000 (about 250 million won). He also holds major stakes in some luxury resorts in Puerto Rico.
