Gochang-gun and Jeonbuk National University Sign MOU to Establish Regular Department of Hanok Architecture

[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Gochang County and Jeonbuk National University have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish the Department of Hanok Architecture as a regular department within the Gochang Campus.

According to the county on the 1st, the MOU signing ceremony was held at Jeonbuk National University Gochang Campus, attended by County Governor Shim Deokseop, Jeonbuk National University President Kim Dongwon, and project officials from Gochang County and Jeonbuk National University.

This MOU includes the establishment and operation of the undergraduate Hanok Architecture Department at Gochang Campus, administrative support for establishing the Hanok Architecture Department (regular department) at Gochang Campus, and active cooperation in matters necessary to promote mutual friendship for nurturing professionals to lead the Hanok industry.

Previously, the Hanok Project Group at Jeonbuk National University Gochang Campus has built the nation’s best Hanok education facilities through a public project by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

In particular, by operating customized educational programs tailored to different targets, ranging from hobby and liberal woodworking classes to the Hanok Master Carpenter course for training specialized Hanok architectural technicians, it has greatly contributed to regional vitality.

The county, in cooperation with Jeonbuk National University, operates the Hanok Architecture Department (contract department) and has prepared and implemented various admission processes to nurture talent tailored to the region.

Furthermore, it plans to further develop the achievements of establishing a system for residents to obtain degrees and nurture local human resources, advancing the Hanok Architecture Department into a regular department.

County Governor Shim Deokseop said, “By establishing the Hanok Architecture Department as a regular department at Jeonbuk National University Gochang Campus, we expect regional economic revitalization through the influx of young people and related job creation,” and added, “We will strive to re-highlight excellent Hanok architecture and establish Gochang as a Hanok architectural cultural city that inherits and develops Hanok culture.”
