[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Su-yeon] LG Uplus announced on the 1st that it has launched 100MHz service in rural 5G shared network areas built by the company.
In July, LG Uplus was allocated a 20MHz bandwidth frequency in the 3.4~3.42GHz band by the Ministry of Science and ICT. LG Uplus provides 5G service in rural shared network construction areas using a total bandwidth of 100MHz, combining the existing 80MHz bandwidth frequency in the 3.42~3.5GHz band. These areas include parts of Gangwon-do, Jeollanam-do, Jeollabuk-do, and Jeju Special Self-Governing Province.
Since bandwidth is related to quality, the launch of the 100MHz service is expected to improve 5G speeds in the respective areas. In rural shared network construction areas, subscribers of other telecommunications companies besides LG Uplus can also use the enhanced 5G service through the newly allocated frequency.
In addition, LG Uplus is leading coverage expansion efforts, such as starting 5G service at Daechongbong Peak of Seoraksan, a famous spot in Gangwon-do, in September. The company plans to continue resolving 5G shadow areas and promote nationwide quality improvement.
Kwon Jun-hyuk, Executive Vice President and Head of the Network Division at LG Uplus, said, "From November, anyone in rural areas where LG Uplus has built 5G coverage will be able to experience the best 5G quality with the 100MHz frequency regardless of their subscribed carrier," adding, "We will continue to carry out thorough construction work to improve nationwide 5G service quality and customer satisfaction."
