Dongseo University Fashion Design Department Wins Grand Prize and Director's Award at the 26th Busan Textile Design Competition

Kim Ji-young wins Grand Prize at Baekhwa Jebang, Kim Si-on receives Busan Design Promotion Institute Director's Award for 'Wave'

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Kim Ji-young, a third-year student in the Department of Fashion Design at Dongseo University (President Jang Je-guk), won the grand prize, the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award, at the 26th Busan Textile Design Competition.

Kim received the top award at the competition for her artwork that patterned traditional flowers, animals, and plants, and was awarded a prize of 5 million won.

Also, Kim Si-on (3rd year) from the Department of Fashion Design received the Director’s Award from the Busan Design Promotion Agency for the work titled ‘Wave’.

The grand prize-winning work by Kim Ji-young, ‘百花齊放 (Baekhwa Je-bang)’, depicts a scene where all kinds of flowers bloom fully and beautifully scatter.

As the graduation season approaches and her learning deepens, she expressed her own blooming self through flowers, animals, and plants imbued with traditional Korean aesthetics.

Kim Ji-young said, “I am very grateful to receive such a grand prize, and I believe the award was given as encouragement to do better in my current studies. Whatever I do, I will live with an unyielding and passionate attitude.”

Now in its 26th year, the ‘Busan Textile Design Competition’ is a nationwide contest aimed at discovering and nurturing new designers who will open a new era in the global textile fashion industry. It is an event contributing to the advancement of textile product sophistication and design promotion.
