[Itaewon Tragedy] Game Industry Ends Halloween Events Early... "Mourning Victims"

[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Choi] Ahead of Halloween, as a crush disaster occurred in Itaewon, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, the gaming industry decided to prematurely end related product sales and events.


According to the gaming industry on the 30th, NCSoft announced the early termination of Halloween-related events and products on the main game websites such as 'Lineage 2M' and 'Lineage W'.


NCSoft stated, "We express our deepest condolences to the families of the Itaewon disaster victims," and explained, "As the national mourning period is designated until 24:00 on November 5, we have decided to suspend the ongoing Halloween-related activities to honor the victims of the Itaewon disaster."


Netmarble also decided to end the Halloween events early in major games such as 'Seven Knights Revolution' and is currently notifying users. The Halloween event tab will be removed, and the exact end time will be announced later.


Nexon had planned to hold Halloween events in 13 popular games but decided to end them early. Halloween-related items or events were announced until November in games like 'HIT 2' and 'KartRider Rush+', but related notices can now be found under ended events.


Kakao Games, Smilegate, and others also confirmed the termination of Halloween-related events in their multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs).


Kakao Games announced on the official 'Odin' cafe, "Due to the national mourning period, the Halloween event and related products in Odin: Valhalla Rising, which were ongoing, will be ended early," and added, "Detailed end schedules and information about items not obtained due to the early termination will be provided through separate notices."


Meanwhile, among the Itaewon disaster victims who died on the 29th, 19 were foreigners, and 16 were injured (as of 1 PM that day). The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters announced that as of 1 PM that day, the identities of 141 out of 151 deceased had been confirmed.
