Ministry of Health Dispatches 9 Disaster Medical Support Teams Including Seoul National University Hospital to Itaewon Accident Site

[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] As of 1:30 AM on the 30th, the Ministry of Health and Welfare announced that nine Disaster Medical Assistance Teams (DMAT), including the Seoul National University Hospital team, have been dispatched to the Itaewon accident site to provide emergency medical care.


They also requested dispatch from all disaster medical assistance teams at metropolitan area emergency medical centers, not only within Seoul but also in the surrounding metropolitan area.


The fire authorities reported that as of now, 59 people have died and 150 have been injured in the large-scale crush accident that occurred around 10:20 PM the previous night in the Itaewon-dong area of Yongsan-gu, Seoul. These patients have been transported to various hospitals including Soonchunhyang University Hospital, National Medical Center, Ewha Mokdong Hospital, Kangbuk Samsung Hospital, Seoul St. Mary's Hospital, Chung-Ang University Hospital, Seoul National University Hospital, and Yeouido St. Mary's Hospital.


Immediately after the accident, the Ministry of Health and Welfare began medical support at the site through the Central Emergency Medical Situation Room. Minister Cho Kyu-hong visited the on-site emergency medical center to check the support status for emergency patients and instructed, "Please do your best to provide emergency medical support for saving lives."
