[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Su-yeon] Huawei announced on the 27th (local time) that it held the ‘2022 Ultra Broadband Forum (UBBF 2022)’ in Bangkok.

On the first day of the event, David Wang, Huawei Board Director and Chairman of the ICT Infrastructure Operations Board, delivered a keynote speech titled ‘Stride to Ultra-Broadband 5.5G,’ stating that by 2030, the smart home, smart campus, and industrial internet sectors will experience tremendous changes. He also said that ultra-broadband 5.5G will serve as a milestone in advancing toward an intelligent world, urging all industry stakeholders to collaborate and accelerate progress toward ultra-broadband 5.5G.

In the intelligent world of 2030, home broadband speeds are expected to reach 10 Gbit per second, significantly improving upon the current experience of 1 Gbit per second. As smart home devices become increasingly widespread in households, the average number of devices connected to Wi-Fi networks is expected to increase from the current 5?20 to as many as 150?200. Accordingly, optical communication capable of reaching every corner of the home will become essential.

By 2030, Wi-Fi networks should be able to provide 10 Gbit per second environments in medium to large-sized workplaces. They will need to support intelligent operation and management, and small businesses and small-scale workplaces will require Wi-Fi networks that offer wide bandwidth, excellent user experience, and one-stop intranet services. The industrial internet is expected to demand bandwidths exceeding 10 Gbit per second and latency below 1 millisecond. Enterprises will adopt multi-cloud strategies requiring networks that support dynamic routing, and due to eco-friendly development and automation, network capacity, energy efficiency, and operation and maintenance (O&M) efficiency are expected to increase tenfold.

Chairman Wang said, “Ultra-broadband 5.5G will be an important milestone on the journey toward an intelligent world. To achieve this, all industries, including standards organizations, regulatory bodies, mobile network operators, and equipment suppliers, must collaborate.” He added, “I hope everyone will join forces to leverage ultra-broadband 5.5G technology, build 5.5G networks and ecosystems, advance the industry, and move forward with ultra-broadband 5.5G.”

Furthermore, Chairman Wang stated that to achieve ultra-broadband 5.5G, the industry must ▲ define next-generation standards ▲ apply product lifecycle standards ▲ rapidly launch ultra-broadband 5.5G ▲ and build ecosystems.
