[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] As the spread of COVID-19 continues, a state of emergency has been declared for Halloween in the Itaewon area of Yongsan-gu.
Yongsan-gu (Mayor Park Hee-young) held an "Emergency Countermeasure Meeting for Halloween" at 2 p.m. on the 27th.
This was to prepare for special quarantine measures, prevent safety accidents, and ensure street cleanliness during the Halloween period, which is just two days away.
The meeting lasted about an hour, presided over by the deputy mayor. Eleven department heads related to the quarantine promotion team, administrative support team, and civil complaint response team attended to review the progress of each department's plans. The emergency countermeasure period is five days, from the 27th to Monday the 31st.
The quarantine promotion team will conduct disinfection and sanitation in the Itaewon area, inspect food service establishments, and carry out safety inspections of major facilities such as the World Food Street, club street, and subway stations in Itaewon.
The administrative support team will operate a comprehensive situation room in preparation for Halloween. The civil complaint response team will manage quarantine in the Itaewon tourism special zone and cultural distribution facilities, conduct special noise inspections, street maintenance, illegal parking enforcement, and implement cleaning measures in the Itaewon area.
Mayor Park Hee-young said, "We are welcoming Halloween without social distancing for the first time in three years," adding, "As this is a serious time with concerns about the resurgence of COVID-19 and drug-related incidents, we will do our utmost to ensure residents' safety."
Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Kang-soo) will hold a Halloween festival in the Hongdae Walkable Street area from the 28th to the 30th.
Hosted by the "Hongdae Walkable Street Cooperative" and organized by the "(Corporation) Mapo Small Business and Small Merchant Association," the festival opened with an opening ceremony at 6 p.m. on the 28th, kicking off three days of spooky and enjoyable Halloween festivities.
Various events such as busking performers' Halloween performances, a Halloween cosplay contest, and a Halloween market were held, bringing fresh curiosity and excitement to those visiting Hongdae on Friday night.
Mayor Park Kang-soo, who participated in the event, said, "I am grateful that such a special festival was created through the voluntary participation of the merchants' association," and expressed his hope that "Hongdae Street will continue to be lively like today, and that the local commercial district will shake off the traces of COVID-19 and be revitalized once again."
