In Korea, Both Flip4 and iPhone14 Show Speed Improvements Compared to Previous Models
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Su-yeon] Samsung Electronics' Galaxy Z Fold4 5G download speed has been found to improve up to 2.8 times compared to its predecessor. Apple's iPhone 14 Pro Max became 2.4 times faster.
On the 28th, telecommunications market research firm Ookla announced through Speedtest Intelligence the median 5G speeds immediately after the release of the Fold4 and iPhone 14 series in 10 countries worldwide, including South Korea.
In South Korea, the Fold4's 5G download speed was 520.29 Mbps, and the upload speed was 51.96 Mbps. The previous model, Fold3, had a download speed of 513.39 Mbps, so the Fold4's download speed improved by 1.3% within the margin of error (5%). The Fold3's upload speed was 42.65 Mbps, showing a 22.1% improvement.
The iPhone 14 Pro recorded a download speed of 663.43 Mbps and an upload speed of 62.46 Mbps. The previous model, iPhone 13 Pro, had a download speed of 596.18 Mbps and an upload speed of 43.35 Mbps, representing improvements of 11.3% and 44.1%, respectively.
The Fold4 showed 5G speeds surpassing the Fold3 in all surveyed countries except Australia. In Australia, the Fold4's 5G upload speed was 23.71 Mbps, a 4.4% increase from the previous model, but the download speed decreased by 8.6% to 309.4 Mbps. The iPhone 14 series exceeded the iPhone 13's speeds in all surveyed countries.
Notably, Brazil showed the most significant speed improvements.
The Fold4's 5G download and upload speeds were 483.26 Mbps and 46.20 Mbps, respectively, marking improvements of 179.2% and 79.8% compared to its predecessor. The iPhone 14 Pro Max's download speed was 493.31 Mbps, and upload speed was 32.41 Mbps, showing increases of 129.2% and 26.1%, respectively. Based on download speeds, the Fold4 became approximately 2.8 times faster, and the iPhone 14 about 2.3 times faster.
Based on download speeds, the Fold4 was faster within the margin of error in Canada and Saudi Arabia. In South Korea, Australia, France, Singapore, and Taiwan, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max were faster. In Brazil and Switzerland, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max were faster within the margin of error.
However, since the measurements were not taken during the same period, it is difficult to directly compare the speeds of the Fold4 and iPhone 14 series one-to-one. The Fold4 was surveyed from August 26 to September 26, while the iPhone 14 series was surveyed from September 16 to October 6.
Among the surveyed countries, South Korea had the fastest 5G download speeds for both the Fold4 and iPhone 14 series, while the United States was the slowest with 165.63 Mbps for the Fold4 and 177.92 Mbps for the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
