[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hee-jun] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recently expressed concern over civilian casualties caused by military airstrikes in Myanmar.
Senior Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lim said on the 27th, "Our government once again urges the cessation of violence in Myanmar, the release of unjustly detained individuals, the mandatory implementation of the five ASEAN-point consensus, and the swift restoration of democracy."
The five ASEAN-point consensus refers to the cessation of violence in Myanmar, the initiation of dialogue among all parties, mediation by the ASEAN chair's special envoy, humanitarian assistance, and visits and meetings with all parties by the ASEAN chair's special envoy delegation.
According to local Myanmar media, on the 23rd, three Myanmar military fighter jets conducted airstrikes at a performance celebrating the 62nd anniversary of the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) in Kachin State in northeastern Myanmar. More than 60 people, including famous Kachin singers, lost their lives. In Kachin State, clashes between the Myanmar military and Kachin ethnic armed groups have continued for decades, and since the military coup in February last year, the Kachin have supported anti-military resistance forces.
