Bob Woodward, Watergate Scandal Scoop, Part of Audiobook 'Trump Tape' Released
"Trump Remarks Verified" ... Does Not Reveal New Nuclear Weapons System
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Park] It has been revealed that former U.S. President Donald Trump publicly mentioned U.S. nuclear weapons.
On the 26th (local time), according to CNN and others, Bob Woodward, deputy editor of The Washington Post, appeared on CNN the day before and released part of the audio content from his newly published audiobook, The Trump Tapes. Woodward is known for his exclusive coverage of the 1973 U.S. Watergate scandal.
According to the interview audio released before publication, former President Trump boasted, "I have built a weapons system that no one else in this country has." He claimed, "We have things you have never seen or heard of," and "Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, and Xi Jinping, President of China, have things they have never heard of before."
Woodward stated that after investigating Trump's claims, he confirmed their truth from a source. However, Woodward did not disclose what the new nuclear weapons system mentioned in the conversation was.
He also said, "Once, Trump asked me, 'What do you think the president's job is?' I answered, 'It is to identify the next step for the majority of the people, not for a political party or interest group, and to create and execute a comprehensive plan.'" Woodward added, "He said, 'Oh, that's good. Great,' but he did not put it into practice." Woodward also criticized the Trump administration's response during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, saying, "Former President Trump does not understand democracy."
