[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) held the 1st Jungnang-gu Harmony Life Sports Competition on the 25th at Muk-dong Multipurpose Gymnasium, where people with disabilities and non-disabled people gathered and participated without barriers.


The event featured various games including team competitions that foster cooperation such as big ball rolling, ball pool throwing, and wave riding, as well as experiential events like darts, sport stacking, and wheelchair basketball.


In particular, Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi of Jungnang-gu also participated in the wheelchair racing event, which was organized as a special event, spending time communicating with the residents.


Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi of Jungnang-gu said, “This Harmony Life Sports Competition was organized as one of the fruits of efforts to create a happy Jungnang-gu where people with disabilities and non-disabled people live together,” adding, “I hope everyone had a happy time socializing and harmonizing with each other.”

Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, is making cakes with local elderly living alone at Daerim 1-dong Community Center on the morning of the 25th.


During his field visit to Daerim 1-dong that day, Mayor Choi visited the home of an elderly person living alone who was affected by heavy rain damage and whose wallpaper he had personally helped replace last summer, checked their living environment, and inquired about their well-being. Afterwards, he conducted a safety inspection of the school routes around Shindaerim Elementary School with parents from Daerim 1-dong and participated in a cooking event for elderly living alone at the community center.


Mayor Choi Ho-kwon said, “I will devote much attention and effort so that all residents, including children, the elderly, and other socially vulnerable groups, can enjoy a healthy and happy life.”

Park Hee-young, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, attended the ‘40th Namyi General Shrine Festival’ held at Namyi General Shrine in Yongmun-dong on the 25th as the chief ritual officer.


The Namyi General Shrine Festival is a traditional cultural event that honors the patriotic loyalty of the general who was a military commander during the Joseon Dynasty and prays for the health, longevity, and prosperity of the residents. It is registered as Seoul City Intangible Cultural Property No. 20 and is annually hosted by the Namyi General Shrine Festival Preservation Society.


This year’s event was attended by about 500 people including members of the Preservation Society, the Nam family clan association, and local residents. Mayor Park, dressed in female ritual attire, served as the chief ritual officer during the ceremony.


Mayor Park Hee-young of Yongsan-gu said, “The Namyi General Shrine Festival, held every year on the 1st day of the 10th lunar month, is a traditional cultural heritage representing the region,” adding, “Although it was regrettable that the event was simplified due to COVID-19, we will continue to maintain and develop this old tradition.”

Kim Tae-woo, Mayor of Gangseo-gu, Seoul, participated in the ‘END violence’ campaign to eradicate child abuse on the 25th.


On that afternoon, Mayor Kim held up a sign in his office at the district office that read, “A safe and happy world for children! Gangseo-gu will be with you!” appealing for residents’ attention to prevent child abuse.


The ‘END violence’ campaign is planned jointly by UNICEF and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to protect children in violent situations and raise international awareness about eradicating child abuse. It is conducted in a relay format.


Participants take photos with the ‘END violence’ campaign logo and upload them on their personal social networks (SNS) including messages to end child abuse along with essential hashtags (#UNICEF, #END violence, #ChildAbuseEradication).


Mayor Kim Tae-woo said, “I ask for much interest and support so that all children can grow up healthy in a safe society free from violence,” adding, “We will do our best to establish a child protection system and create ‘Gangseo, a child-friendly city where children are happy’ for the healthy growth and happy life of our children.”
