First Non-White and Youngest UK Prime Minister, Former Chancellor Sunak Confirmed (Update)

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Rishi Sunak, a 42-year-old British-Indian former Chancellor of the Exchequer, has been appointed as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

On the 24th (local time), following the deadline for candidate registration for the Conservative Party leadership and next Prime Minister election, Penny Mordaunt, the House Leader, announced she would not run, leaving former Chancellor Sunak as the sole candidate.

Sunak becomes the UK's first non-white Prime Minister and, at 42 years old (born May 1980), also holds the title of the youngest Prime Minister in 210 years since Robert Jenkinson in 1812 (who was 42 years and 1 day old).
