[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] SK Innovation, celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, has created a space to reflect on its past sustained growth with its members and to share its commitment to achieving 'All-Time Net Zero.'

On the 24th, SK Innovation announced that it will hold a 60th anniversary exhibition at the SK Ulsan Complex (CLX) under the theme 'From Refining to Green Energy.' The exhibition, held from the 24th to the 28th on the first floor of the main lobby of SK Ulsan CLX, is a relocation of the exhibition that took place from the 17th to the 21st at the SK Seorin Building in Jung-gu, Seoul.

This exhibition was planned to communicate SK Innovation's 60-year history and vision to its members. It aims to share the exhibition hall, first unveiled at the 60th anniversary ceremony held on the 13th at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Jung-gu, Seoul, with more of the company's key members. In particular, SK Ulsan CLX is the birthplace of SK Innovation, having driven the company's growth in the past, and is also a key player in achieving 'All-Time Net Zero' as a leading site for carbon reduction in the future.

The 60th anniversary exhibition consists of items generously provided by current and former employees and various historical materials documenting significant moments. Milestones in the 60-year history, such as the founding in 1962, the acquisition of Seongyeong (the predecessor of SK) in 1980, the launch of the SK Innovation group in 2011, and the spin-off of the battery and oil exploration & production (E&P) businesses in 2021, are represented through work diaries, company newsletters, and merit plaques.

Among them, a video of the late Chairman Choi Jong-hyun emphasizing the transition to a comprehensive energy company in 1982 drew attention. At that time, Chairman Choi stated, "Comprehensive energy includes not only refining but also coal, gas, electricity, solar energy, nuclear power, and energy storage battery systems," adding, "In the long term, we must engage in all these businesses." This established SK Innovation's identity as a comprehensive energy company, looking 40 years ahead as early as 1982.

Starting as Korea's first refining company and growing into a comprehensive energy company, SK Innovation, on its 60th anniversary, declared the 'All-Time Net Zero' vision that goes beyond net zero by 2050. This is a bold declaration to take responsibility for the carbon accumulated until 2062, when SK Innovation celebrates its 100th anniversary. It promises to leap forward as a green energy company creating a sustainable global environment and to pass on clean energy without carbon emissions to future generations.

Kim Woo-kyung, SK Innovation's PR manager, said, "SK Innovation's 60 years represent the history of Korea's refining industry," adding, "From now on, we will supply energy centered on decarbonization and low carbon and do our best to achieve the vision of All-Time Net Zero."
