At the National 119 Firefighting Children's Song Contest, the David Praise Choir of Yanggok Church, representing Changwon, won the Grand Prize.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Song Jong-gu] The Changwon Fire Headquarters in Gyeongnam announced on the 24th that the David Choir of Yanggok Church, representing Changwon, won the Grand Prize at the 23rd National 119 Firefighting Children's Song Contest held at the Kim Dae-jung Hall of Jeollanam-do Provincial Office.
The contest held on the 21st featured 18 elementary school teams from 18 cities and provinces nationwide who advanced through preliminaries, competing fiercely. The David Choir of Yanggok Church achieved a remarkable second place nationwide.
The David Choir of Yanggok Church has previously performed at New York's Carnegie Hall in 2016 and 2019. In this contest, they performed a piece titled "Angel and Devil," which portrayed how water and fire can sometimes represent good and evil, and how the battle between angels and devils ultimately ends with good prevailing through the dedication of 119 emergency responders.
The children's song contest is held annually by the Fire Agency to instill dreams and hope in children and to cultivate safety awareness through singing.
Jeong Hyun-hee, the instructor who led the Grand Prize-winning team, said, "I am truly happy that the children's efforts have borne good fruit," and added, "I sincerely thank the children who devoted themselves to practice and the firefighters who helped them perform well in the contest."
Kim Yong-jin, the Fire Headquarters Chief, said, "Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we were unable to hold in-person events for some time, but with the easing of COVID-19 this year, it is truly an honor to achieve good results in an in-person event," and added, "I hope this contest becomes a precious and joyful memory that serves as an opportunity to learn and practice the importance of safety."
