[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) has launched a specialized health care service to support the health management of single-person households, helping them achieve a happy old age.

According to the "Seoul Single-Person Household Survey and Institutional Improvement Research Report (2022)" by the Seoul Institute, the prevalence of chronic diseases among single-person households was 31.5% in 2021, an increase of 10.2% compared to 2017, and about 2.7 times higher than that of multi-person households. Also, 73.1% of single-person households perceive their health as good, which is lower than the 88.1% of multi-person households.

Seongdong-gu is taking active administrative measures to support the healthy daily lives of single-person households. On the 18th, the district signed an agreement with SK C&C and introduced the data-based, user-customized digital health management service "Seongdong Health KeepWell."

The "Seongdong Health KeepWell" project is a customized health management service for single-person households in Seongdong-gu, based on SK C&C's health management platform "KeepWell."

First, after installing the "KeepWell" app, users can measure key organ ages such as ▲comprehensive physical age ▲obesity body type age ▲heart age ▲liver age ▲pancreas age ▲kidney age based on their National Health Insurance Service health checkup results, and receive personalized health management guidance.

Also, by using the "AI Diet" section, users can analyze the nutritional information of their daily intake and receive prescriptions for necessary nutrients and exercises. Furthermore, for consistent health management, users can receive information for forming healthy habits through weekly phone consultations by the Health Care Volunteer Group (Integrated Health Care Volunteer Society) based on their weekly activity data.

The service is available to single-person households residing in Seongdong-gu, and applications can be submitted from October 24 via the Seongdong-gu Single-Person Household Support Center website or by phone after downloading the app.

To promote customized policies for the increasing number of single-person households according to their life cycles, Seongdong-gu opened the Single-Person Household Support Center in Majang-dong in August this year. The center currently operates various programs such as "Seongdong Dandang" to build social networks, enhance capabilities, and support independence for single-person households, as well as providing safety items.

In particular, Seongdong-gu is focusing on specialized health care projects for the health of single-person households, and plans to operate a drawing cafe called "Geurim Maru" in early November, which will link art therapy with counseling to support the mental health of single-person households.

Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, "Anxiety about health is a major part of the fear experienced while living alone," and added, "We will continue to expand essential specialized health care services for the happy old age of single-person households."

Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) selected 122 members of the "Seongbuk-gu Corner-to-Corner Discovery Team" on the 20th to find welfare blind spots throughout the district and held an inauguration ceremony.

These members are residents familiar with local conditions and actively participate in discovering blind spots, monitoring households expected to be in crisis.

At the inauguration ceremony, Mayor Lee Seung-ro awarded appointment certificates to the residents of the "Corner-to-Corner Discovery Team," and the entire team pledged to actively work to eliminate welfare blind spots through "Our Resolution."

Additionally, they shared methods for identifying households at risk, assigned roles for future key activities, and joined the Kakao Channel "Seongbuk Hope Talk," which allows real-time reporting and tips.

After the inauguration, until the end of November, the team will conduct an intensive publicity campaign by visiting houses to attach stickers saying "Please call anytime" on mailboxes or apartment entrance doors, and distributing notices about discovering at-risk households mainly to local real estate offices, convenience stores, supermarkets, clinics, and neighborhood shops.

Residents identified as at-risk households will receive various services such as emergency support, customized benefits, care SOS, and private support through rapid counseling by welfare officers linked with the "Visiting Community Center," and continuous follow-up care including welfare neighborhood care teams and AI-based welfare checks.

Seongbuk-gu is also making efforts to discover at-risk households through projects such as ▲big data-based crisis information investigation ▲social isolation risk survey for households aged 50 and over ▲cooperation with city gas companies and apartment management offices for reporting suspected crisis households.

Mayor Lee Seung-ro said, "We must not repeat tragic incidents like the recent Suwon three-mothers case, presumed to be caused by financial hardship," and added, "We expect active activities from the Corner-to-Corner Discovery Team, and the administration will carefully check whether there are households in crisis among local residents and devote administrative power to achieving zero welfare blind spots. We ask residents for active reporting and attention to neighbors to foster a welfare ecosystem where neighbors care about each other's problems."

Oh Eun-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu (Safety and Health Management Officer of Dobong-gu), conducted safety inspections on major facilities related to serious accidents on the 20th in line with the enforcement of the Serious Accident Punishment Act and the strengthened obligations for workplace safety and health under the Industrial Safety and Health Act.

The visited facilities included a large waste intermediate treatment plant with relatively high accident rates among workers, a resource circulation center (food waste treatment facility, recycling sorting facility, etc.) that uses special equipment and machinery due to the nature of the work, and the Dobong-dong indoor sports center (swimming pool facilities, etc.) frequently used by residents.

On that day, Mayor Oh Eun-seok focused on checking preventive measures with the responsible departments for forklift collision accidents, conveyor belt entrapment accidents in automated facilities, slip and fall accidents on floors, and fire accidents.

He also spoke with frontline workers such as environmental officers and temporary workers and promised to create a safer working environment.

Mayor Oh Eun-seok said, "Workers must follow work rules according to manuals for each workplace, and employers (supervisors) should do their best to identify and improve hazardous factors to create a work environment free of serious accidents," adding, "I came out here as soon as possible because unfortunate incidents have continued to occur at work sites recently. Above all, the safety and health of workers are most important, so I plan to listen to the opinions of those on site and carefully review the measures."
