[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Ahn Hyeong-ju, a member of the Gwangju Seo-gu Council, stated on the 24th regarding the 'Resolution to Form a Special Committee on Climate Crisis Response,' "We clearly recognize that there is also a cautious view within the Seo-gu Council and Seo-gu Office, and the effectiveness of forming the special committee must be carefully reconsidered from the beginning."
Councilor Ahn said, "Among the five autonomous districts, Seo-gu was the first to hold the '2045 Carbon Neutral Seo-gu Declaration Ceremony,' and I feel proud that Seo-gu is also leading the institutional foundation through ordinance enactment," adding, "I support the formation of the climate special committee."
However, he emphasized, "a thorough preparation process for the substantive operation of the climate special committee is necessary after close consultation between the Seo-gu Council and Seo-gu Office in advance."
Councilor Ahn stated, "Currently, the Seo-gu Council's three standing committees are functioning smoothly in terms of monitoring and checks and balances," and added, "According to the ordinance on the formation and operation of research groups for Seo-gu Council members in Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu, councilors interested in climate crisis response can voluntarily form research groups to study and discuss the issues, and then each standing committee can support the relevant issues policy-wise."
He continued, "Currently, Seo-gu faces various urgent issues directly related to people's livelihoods, such as the lack of follow-up measures after the collapse accident at Hwajeong-dong I-Park, protection of local commercial districts due to the promotion of a complex shopping mall, relocation of the military airport and the ammunition depot in Mareuk-dong, and problems of green algae and odor in Pungam and Uncheon reservoirs," warning, "If special committees are formed for each major issue, procedural problems could reduce the efficiency of council operations and legislative activities."
Meanwhile, Councilor Ahn attends the 'Climate Special Committee Policy Seminar' hosted by the Gwangju Metropolitan City Council every Friday at 7:30 a.m., striving to successfully establish public-private governance for climate crisis response and carbon neutrality in Seo-gu.
