[Asia Economy Reporters Hyunju Lee, Hyunji Kwon] On the 21st, the People Power Party continued daily criticism, accusing the Democratic Party of focusing solely on protecting 'Representative Lee Jae-myung.' They also stated that if Kim Yong and others are innocent, they should cooperate with the investigation.
Joo Ho-young, floor leader of the People Power Party, said at the National Assembly audit countermeasure meeting held that day, "There is a proverb that the more you try to hide, the more it is revealed," adding, "What are you afraid of to obstruct official duties? The more you do so, the more it feels like there is a big problem." Regarding the repeated disruptions of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee's audit the previous day, he said, "The Democratic Party blocked the legal proceedings," and added, "The Democratic Party has no right to criticize unilateral proceedings. Those who unilaterally proceeded with the passage of the Grain Management Act call it unilateral proceedings after only a few days have passed." Seong Il-jong, chairman of the Policy Committee, also pointed out, "To prevent the search of the office of one criminal suspect, 169 members of the National Assembly mobilized," and said, "How do the people think of the Democratic Party, which deceives the public by exaggerating one office as the central party headquarters and abandons people's livelihood? It is truly shameful." Chairman Seong added, "Is it true that those who prosper by the sword perish by the sword?" and "Representative Lee Jae-myung is personally showing that those who prosper by lies perish by lies."
Warnings not to evade the investigation were also reiterated. Song Eon-seok, chief deputy floor leader, said, "They claim it is a retaliatory investigation and opposition suppression, but there is no reasonable or objective evidence," adding, "The normal and rational action is to attend accurately and reveal the truth. We strongly urge not to obstruct the audit and to return to a livelihood-focused audit." Jeong Jeom-sik, the Legislation and Judiciary Committee's secretary, also said, "The arrest and search of Kim Yong, deputy director, were based on a warrant issued by the court," and urged, "Do not hold the audit, which is a duty entrusted by the people, hostage, and actively cooperate with the investigation."
