[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The Department of Physical Therapy at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology participated in the 103rd National Sports Festival from the 9th to the 12th, providing medical volunteer services to athletes representing the Busan region.

The 103rd National Sports Festival was held at Ulsan Sports Complex from the 7th to the 13th, marking the first event in three years since the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

This National Sports Festival featured three divisions?high school, college, and general?with a record-breaking 28,900 athletes competing across 49 events, showcasing their skills against each other.

The Department of Physical Therapy at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology collaborated with the Busan Athletics Federation and the Korea Association of Athletics Federations to operate a medical support booth for four days to prevent injuries and aid in condition recovery for athletes participating in the festival.

More than 30 participants, including physical therapy professors and students from the master's program in physical therapy, advanced major courses, and professional associate degree students, took part in the medical volunteer activities.

Based on individual athletes' physical function assessments, the Department of Physical Therapy actively assisted athletes in achieving optimal condition by providing muscle relaxation massages for muscle recovery and strength training exercises to prevent injuries.

The Dong-Eui Institute of Technology stated, “We supported the improvement of records for professional team athletes such as Choi Kyung-sun, who won the gold medal in the women's marathon with a time of 2 hours 39 minutes 5 seconds, Cha Ji-won, who won gold and silver medals in the women's 1500m and 800m athletics events, and Yoon Joon-won, who won the silver medal in the men's 800m athletics event.”

Professor Baek Il-hoon said, “Through this National Sports Festival, I learned how athletes and physical therapists should work harmoniously together,” adding, “I will continue to research specialized physical therapy for athletics to help improve athletes' records in better settings in the future.”

The Department of Physical Therapy consistently conducts medical volunteer activities targeting various groups in the Busan area, including youth, elderly and disabled individuals, and professional sports teams, aiming to cultivate proactive physical therapists with a spirit of service and strong character.
