Changwon Special City Expresses Regret Over Citizen Group's Press Conference on Tap Water

No Issues in Tap Water Supply, Disappointment Over Private Organization's Independent Investigation Results

Changwon Special City Expresses Regret Over Citizen Group's Press Conference on Tap Water Changwon City Hall, Gyeongnam.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Song Jong-gu] Changwon Special City expressed strong regret on the 20th regarding the press conference held by Changwon Water Life Citizens' Coalition and others, which demanded accountability from Changwon City and urged an investigation into the suspected algal bloom substances found in the tap water filters of a house in Jinhae-gu.

The city expressed regret over the private organizations' independent investigation and announcement of results, stating that microcystin-LR, an algal toxin, has never been detected in the tap water from the three water purification plants to date, and that the analysis results are disclosed on the Changwon City website.

In the case of the house located in Jinhae-gu, where the algal bloom was reported, the complainant requested an inspection through an environmental organization. On the 7th, the Changwon City Waterworks Office visited the household, collected samples, and tested them, resulting in no detection of microcystin-LR, the algal toxin.

Lee Jong-deok, Director of the Waterworks Office, said, “We ask that households immediately report if the installed filter turns green or if there is any suspicion about the quality of tap water. We will additionally monitor algal toxins at household faucets, transparently disclose the results to citizens, and establish a public-private council to ensure the safety of tap water.”
