Construction of Goseong-gun Youth Hostel in Gyeongnam to Begin in Earnest

Approved by the County Council on the Fifth Proposal of the Shared Property Management Plan

Result of Gaining Public Sympathy through Communication with the Council in the 8th Elected Term

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Song Jong-gu] Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 20th that the shared property management plan concerning the youth hostel was approved at the 2nd plenary session of the 278th Goseong-gun Council (extraordinary session), enabling the full-scale construction to proceed.

The Goseong-gun Youth Hostel project has been promoted since 2019 to resolve the accommodation shortage caused by the increase in nationwide sports competitions and to revitalize the local economy by attracting stay-type tourists and the MICE industry.

However, although the shared property management plan was submitted to the council four times since October last year, it was not passed by the council's standing committee, and the project has not been properly promoted for a year until now.

The reason the previously unapproved shared property management plan was passed this time in the council is analyzed to be mainly due to Mayor Sang-geun Lee's continuous will to promote the youth hostel during the 8th term of the civilian government, continuous communication with the council, and gaining the public's sympathy through the residents' briefing session held on the 12th.

The mayor said, "With the council's approval this time, the youth hostel construction, which has gone through difficulties, has finally entered a normal track," adding, "We will build the youth hostel as a premium facility to make Goseong a sports industry city and a place where everyone wants to stay."

The Goseong-gun Youth Hostel will be built in San 10-9, Sinwol-ri, Goseong-eup, with a total floor area of 7,199㎡, 47 rooms, and a capacity of 234 people.

Additionally, it will consist of four buildings harmonizing with the greenery of Namsan Park, and a convention hall accommodating 300 people for the MICE industry will be installed, making it not just a simple accommodation facility but a landmark of Goseong-gun.

The project cost is composed of 14 billion KRW from Goseong Green Power's win-win cooperation fund and 10 billion KRW from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's special support project fund, providing the best conditions to boost the local economy without any financial burden on Goseong-gun.

Goseong-gun plans to establish optimal project conditions through feasibility re-examination and design change review, aiming to start construction in the first half of 2023 and open the youth hostel in the second half of 2024.
