From Yeosin Gangrim to Otgeutdong... 'K-Webtoon Special Exhibition' in Manhattan, New York

[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Joselgina] K-Webtoons are landing in New York.

The New York Korean Cultural Center announced on the 19th (local time) that, in collaboration with the Korea Manhwa Contents Agency, it will hold a special exhibition titled 'Bang! K-Webtoon' from the 31st to December 16th at the Gallery Korea of the New York Cultural Center. This event introduces the charm and global influence of K-Webtoons, the source content of the 'K-Drama' syndrome, in New York, known as a mecca of popular arts.

The exhibition features webtoon works that blend modern sensibility with traditional themes, including 'Navillera,' nominated for Best Webcomic at the '2022 Eisner Awards,' known as the Oscars of the American comic industry, as well as 'True Beauty' and 'The Red Sleeve Cuff,' which have also gained popularity as dramas.

Additionally, to help visitors understand the life of Joseon Dynasty court ladies and court culture depicted in 'The Red Sleeve Cuff,' materials such as 'Gwak Jang Yang Munrok' and 'Gungnyeosa' from the Seoul Museum of History's collection will be displayed. With assistance from Namwon City, the location of the nationally designated scenic site Gwanghallu Garden, which serves as a major setting for the work, and the Cultural Heritage Administration, Joseon Dynasty royal dragon robes and court lady costumes will also be exhibited to showcase the beauty of traditional Korean hanbok.
