[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] On the 17th, Oh Young-soon of the Gwangju Nam-gu Council questioned the 'Industrial Safety and Health Act-related' matters, 'Youth Policy Projects,' and 'Health Center Measures for Responding to Emerging Infectious Diseases' during the 2nd plenary session of the 289th extraordinary meeting.
Councilor Oh inquired about the current status of projects related to the Industrial Safety and Health Act, the supervision status of compliance with the law at private consignment agencies in our district, and regarding youth policy projects, the budget trends, project status, and usage status of our district's youth policy projects.
Councilor Oh stated, "As infectious disease experts claim, new infectious diseases like COVID-19 may occur every 3 to 5 years. Nam-gu must establish a proactive response system to prepare for the future."
However, he added, "Unlike other local governments, Nam-gu’s health center is located in the same building as the main office, so if a symptomatic infectious disease patient visits the health center, many employees and an unspecified number of residents are exposed to the infectious disease," and questioned future measures, saying, "To resolve this and respond effectively, measures for the health center are necessary."
Kim Byung-nae, Mayor of Nam-gu, responded, "We will comply with the Industrial Safety and Health Act to prevent industrial accidents and create a more pleasant and safe working environment, and do our best to make Cheongnyeon Warak a true youth hub space."
Mayor Kim said, "Since the health center is located in the same building as the main office, there is concern about exposure of employees and residents to infectious diseases, so we will reflect the construction and relocation of the health center in the mid- to long-term plan and proceed step by step."
