[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Ikang) announced on the 18th that Yangdong Dry Fish Market, the largest traditional market in Honam, was selected as an excellent market for the first time in Gwangju Metropolitan City at the ‘2022 Seafood Origin Labeling Excellent Market Contest.’
Following last month’s ‘2022 National Excellent Market Expo,’ where Yangdong Covered Shopping Center won the Presidential Award in the Excellent Market for Traditional Market Revitalization category, this is the second achievement.
The ‘Seafood Origin Labeling Excellent Market Contest’ has been held annually since 2016 by the National Fisheries Products Quality Management Service to promote the origin labeling system through voluntary management of sellers’ origin labeling and inducing fair trade order, targeting traditional markets and seafood specialty markets nationwide.
Seo-gu and the merchants of Yangdong Dry Fish Market maintained origin labeling boards and conducted frequent origin labeling education to provide accurate information to customers visiting the market. As a result of continuous quality management to ensure customers can trust and purchase with confidence, they earned the honor of being selected as an excellent seafood market for origin labeling.
At the award ceremony held on the 17th at Yangdong Dry Fish Market, Mayor Kim Ikang of Seo-gu, Kang Minjin, Head of Mokpo Branch of the National Fisheries Products Quality Management Service, Lee Myung-geun, President of Yangdong Dry Fish Market, and related merchant association officials attended and shared the joy of the award.
As a result of this award, Yangdong Dry Fish Market, selected as an excellent market, received an excellent market plaque and a prize worth 5 million KRW.
Mayor Kim Ikang of Seo-gu said, “Yangdong Dry Fish Market being selected as an excellent market for the first time in Gwangju Metropolitan City at the Origin Labeling Excellent Market Contest is the result of the merchants’ active efforts to establish a transparent distribution order. We will continue to provide generous support to become a trusted traditional market for customers visiting Yangdong Traditional Market.”
Meanwhile, Yangdong Dry Fish Market was selected as a 2022 Specialized Market (Cultural Tourism Type) by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, investing a total of 1 billion KRW in projects such as smart store entry support, regional linked specialized product development, and the Geonmaek Festival, steadily growing through change and competitiveness.
