[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Hyundai Elevator announced on the 18th that it will introduce a smart safety system jointly developed with LGU+ to all installation sites nationwide starting from the 21st. The smart safety system, which applies Internet of Things (IoT) technology, will be implemented at all sites across the country, including direct management and partner companies.

In January, the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on "Joint Development and Expansion Cooperation of Smart Safety Gear System" and began development. Since April, during the pilot test, big data-based machine learning technology was applied to analyze site conditions and worker behavior types for about 150 workers, enhancing the system's suitability for the field.

The smart safety system consists of three types of smart safety gear equipped with IoT sensors (safety helmet, safety hook, safety belt sensor), beacon sensors, a worker-exclusive application (App), and a control platform. When a worker proceeds with the installation process, the system automatically recognizes whether the safety helmet chin strap and safety hook are fastened, and if not fastened, it alerts the worker and those nearby to prevent danger in advance.

The three types of smart safety gear were designed to minimize discomfort when worn, enhancing convenience. While minimizing weight, they were made to be attachable and detachable from the worker's existing equipment to increase versatility. Additionally, considering the difficulty of charging in field conditions, the application allows real-time checking of remaining battery power.

Jeon Seung-hoon, Head of Smart Infrastructure Business at LG Uplus, said, "To provide a better experience to customers, we modified the product several times over months based on on-site customer VOC, which enabled us to create a solution that is easy for field workers to use while preventing safety risks. We will strive to expand this from elevator installation sites to other sites at risk of fall accidents to prevent serious industrial accidents."

Lee Jeong-han, Chief Safety and Environment Officer (CSEO) at Hyundai Elevator, said, "Given the nature of elevator installation work, which inevitably involves working at heights, we proactively established the smart safety system to prevent potential risks in advance. We will continue to promote improvements in the work environment and system development so that all workers can work safely."
