[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province is recruiting 'open parking lots' that residents can freely use to alleviate parking difficulties in densely populated residential and commercial areas until the 21st of this month.
The open parking lot candidates include schools or religious facilities, large buildings, and apartment complexes with attached parking lots. If selected, they must open at least 5 parking spaces for more than 2 years.
Instead of building new parking lots, which require significant time and cost, Yongin City is promoting the 'Open Parking Lot Support Project' to help citizens enjoy parking convenience by sharing surplus parking spaces in existing private facilities.
If selected as an open parking lot, the city supports 90% of the facility installation costs, up to 4.4 million KRW, with 480,000 KRW per parking space for installing parking convenience facilities such as barriers and closed-circuit TVs (CCTV).
The city prioritizes facilities with high convenience by considering whether the parking shortage in nearby areas is severe and whether there are sufficient parking spaces.
Mayor Lee Sang-il of Yongin emphasized, "Open parking lots are a community-level win-win solution to solve parking problems," adding, "We will prepare effective policies and various support measures to resolve parking difficulties that cause inconvenience in daily life."
This year in Yongin City, four locations share a total of 163 parking spaces, including Gippeun Sosik Yongin Church in Gorim-dong, Cheoin-gu, Yangji Church in Yangji-myeon, Open Church in Yeongdeok-dong, Giheung-gu, and Shingal Christ Church in Shingal-dong.
