[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yeo Jong-gu] The 2022 Serotonin Drum Festival ‘Millennium City, Sound of a Thousand Drums,’ held on the special stage at Gyeongju Tower in Gyeongju Expo Park on the 15th, concluded with about 1,000 attendees, including 400 students from across the country, their families, and spectators.
On this day, the event created a spectacular scene with 400 students from 15 schools participating on-site and 600 youths from 26 schools connected online via the internet, all drumming simultaneously.
The performance was hosted by actor Kim Seong-beom and was also broadcast live through the Gyeongju Expo Park YouTube channel and the ZOOM platform. After the opening ceremony, ensemble drum performances by each school were held, and the festival was conducted as a sharing event of participation and passion rather than competition.
The drum sounds of ‘sharing, consideration, and communication’ from the youths filling Gyeongju Expo Park were transmitted nationwide through online channels.
Yeom Mi-sook (Nonsan-si, Chungnam), a spectator who watched the performance, said, “The drum sounds echoing in the millennium city, Silla Gyeongju, gave an emotional resonance to my heart,” and added, “I hope there will be many more such diverse performances in the future.”
This performance was held by the Serotonin Drum Club youths as a talent donation to contribute to the establishment of a healthy youth culture through sharing, consideration, and communication.
Ryu Hee-rim, CEO of Gyeongju Expo Park, said, “It is very meaningful that 1,000 youths gathered together in Gyeongju, the ‘Millennium City’ that fully embodies a thousand years of culture and arts, to deliver a performance carrying a message of communication and harmony.”
