[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Myunghwan] Kakao's major services, which experienced disruptions due to a data center fire, are gradually returning to normal as of the afternoon of the 17th. Most functions of KakaoTalk have been restored.

According to Kakao, as of 5 PM on the same day, KakaoTalk's messaging function, as well as sending and receiving image and video files, are operational. KakaoTalk wallet services including Kakao Certificate, electronic certificates, digital cards, Talk Business Cards, and My Subscription are also available for use.

Services from Kakao's financial affiliates, such as KakaoPay and KakaoBank, are also functioning normally.

However, Kakao stated that the business service 'Talk Channel' and the media file storage service 'Talk Drawer' are still under recovery. Additionally, Kakao's portal 'Daum' email and Kakao email services will require more time to be fully restored. Kakao explained, "These services have a high complexity in interconnected systems and special recovery equipment, which is causing delays in normalization."

Naver, which also had some IT facilities at SK㈜ C&C's Pangyo Data Center along with Kakao, is currently completing final work for full normalization. According to the Ministry of Science and ICT and others, as of 5 PM on the same day, the power supply recovery rate at SK㈜ C&C's Pangyo Data Center was about 95%, similar to the level in the morning.

Earlier, major services of Kakao, including KakaoTalk, and some Naver services began experiencing errors around 3:30 PM on the 15th due to the fire at SK㈜ C&C's Pangyo Data Center.
