Sexual Assault Victim Files Complaint with Prosecutors on the 15th... Prosecutors State "Seriousness of Crime and Concern for Victim"
[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Kyung-jun] The prosecution has requested an arrest warrant on charges of sexual violence against Kim Geun-sik (54), who served 15 years in prison for sexually assaulting 11 minors, just two days before his release.
The Anyang Branch of the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office filed the arrest warrant request against Kim Geun-sik on the 15th for violating the Sexual Violence Punishment Act. Kim Geun-sik was scheduled to be released on the 17th and reside at a rehabilitation facility located in Uijeongbu City.
However, the situation rapidly changed when a victim who suffered sexual violence from Kim Geun-sik 16 years ago filed a complaint with the prosecution on the same day.
The prosecution requested the arrest warrant considering the severity of Kim Geun-sik's crimes, the risk of flight due to unstable residence, the possibility of reoffending, and concerns for the victim's safety.
Kim Geun-sik was sentenced to 15 years in prison for consecutively sexually assaulting 11 minor female students in Gyeonggi Province and Incheon between May and August 2006. At the time of the crimes, Kim Geun-sik already had 19 prior convictions, including rape causing injury.
Kim Geun-sik, who was sentenced to 5 years in prison in 2000 for sexually assaulting a minor, was released in 2006 but committed crimes again just 16 days after his release. Scheduled to be released in September last year, Kim Geun-sik's sentence was extended after assaulting fellow inmates twice while incarcerated.
