[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Incheon International Airport Corporation announced on the 14th that it will operate AI autonomous cleaning robots at the departure hall of Incheon International Airport Terminal 1 to advance the airport cleaning system and improve operational efficiency.
Since April last year, the corporation has compared and tested various products and decided to introduce wet floor cleaning robots suitable for the airport environment. The cleaning robots being introduced this time are equipped with advanced technologies such as autonomous driving and machine learning, enabling unmanned, optimized route finding for consistent high-quality floor cleaning.
Equipped with laser sensors and 3D cameras, the robots secure a 360-degree field of view to detect and navigate passengers and obstacles autonomously, allowing safe and effective cleaning operations even in crowded airport areas.
The corporation will initially deploy two cleaning robots at the east and west sides of the departure hall in Terminal 1. Plans are underway to expand the introduction to the entire airport area, including Terminal 2, in the future.
Ryu Jin-hyung, Head of Operations at Incheon International Airport Corporation, said, “Through the introduction of these cleaning robots, we aim to provide a clean and convenient airport environment for passengers returning to Incheon Airport in the post-COVID-19 era,” adding, “We will also actively introduce smart services, including cleaning robots, to enhance airport operational efficiency.”
