[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Wook] Changnyeong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, has succeeded in hosting the 6th Ecotourism Festival, organized by the Ministry of Environment and hosted by the Korea Ecotourism Association, Korea National Park Service, and National Institute of Ecology.

The Ecotourism Festival is a nationwide event held to increase public understanding of ecotourism and to promote ecotourism activities.

It started in 2015 at Bukhansan, followed by Naejangsan in 2016, Gwanghwamun in 2017, Suncheonman in 2018, and Gyeryongsan in 2019. The event was suspended in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19.

The event will be held on November 18 and 19 around the Upo Wetland area, with participation from 29 ecotourism sites nationwide, showcasing unique ecotourism destinations and experiential activities, creating a space for interaction with tourists.

It will also be promoted in conjunction with the annual Upo Wetland Life Trail Walking Contest and, in cooperation with Korea Water Resources Corporation, plans to offer rich experiences and attractions such as eco trekking and discovering the water culture and life of the Nakdong River.

Upo Wetland is the largest inland wetland in Korea, preserving the mysteries of ancient times, and is an ecotourism attraction visited by over 600,000 visitors annually.

Nearby, visitors can enjoy various ecotourism experiences at the Upo Wetland Ecology Center, Crested Ibis Restoration Center, Upo Wetland Ecological Experience Center, Upo Dragonfly Land, Mountain Rabbit Song Garden, and Upo Ecovillage Youth Hostel.

A county official stated, “Ecotourism is not just tourism for enjoyment but tourism to learn and experience the value of nature. This event will be a great opportunity to widely promote Upo Wetland and reflect on the importance of preserving the natural environment.”
